Here is the video of the spoof that played this past weekend. It went with our “Reel Stories” series. This week’s message had a tie-in to the movie High School Musical.
We set-up the video up by asking how Donnell Bennett, Glades Christian Academy’s (GCA) PE teacher, ended up at GCA. you should know that Donnell played for the 1991 NCAA National Champion Miami Hurricanes. He also played 8 years in the NFL (Chiefs and Redskins).
This video capped off a weekend of creativity and excitement. For example:
- We had those high-powered moving lights outside that could be seen for about 8 miles in either direction
- We had a limo outside the Worship Center with a “movie star” and her tiny dog (my mother-in-law, Emily Albright and teacup Chihuahua, Parker)
- We had a red carpet in the foyer with the paparazzi taken pictures of people as they entered
- We handed out popcorn for people to eat during the service
- We had 2 kids (Johnny Jones and McKenzie Campbell) sing a tune from High School Musical. They were amazing…
- The Worship Center was decked out with all kinds of Hollywood stuff
- The worship set may have been the best ever
- Pastor David’s message on “why do people come to church” was great.
Over 3600 people attended one of our 6 services. That is the most ever on a non-holiday weekend. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. It is a “Christianity 101″ series that will feature:
- More creative videos and music.
- A church-wide movie night that will be nothing but a bunch of people getting together to watch a movie outside under the stars.
- An “on-the-spot” baptism challenge. We will have shorts and custom-made t-shirts to hand out to people who want to be baptized at the end of a service.
- The Lord’s Supper
In short, it is going to be a great series!

What service did you go to? 6:30, right? If you got there real early, you may have missed it…they were definitely out there snapping shots all weekend…it was funny watching people’s reaction. Some posed, others kept walking not knowing how to respond. Everyone was laughing and having a good time though!
