CBG Real Life Story > Shooting Fish in a Barrel

May 29, 2008

I have to believe that there aren’t many churches in America where you will have this conversation:

Guest: (running down the isle before a service) Hi!  I meet you at a wedding you did for a family member of mine.  Do you remember?

Me: Of course, how could I forget!  It was like being at a rowdy rock concert. (It really was…the guests heckled the groom throughout the ceremony.  It was awkward and endearing all at the same time…is that possible???)

Guest: Well, after the wedding, I agreed to attend Church by the Glades with the newlyweds.  I love it here.  I am learning and growing, but I have one question, how can I experience everything? How can I be saved?

Me: Well, let me tell you…(From there, I shared the Gospel with her.  She accepted Christ. GO GOD!)

I can’t tell you how regularly this story is played out here at CBG.  Ask anyone of the pastors and they will give at least one of them.  Pastor David likens it to shooting fish in a barrel.

God is moving is such a unique way here @ CBG that people are literally running down the isle to talk with someone about getting their life right with God.

For this specific guest, I gave her a New Believers Bible, a complete Bible (Old and New Testament) and spoke briefly with her about taking some “next steps” in her walk with Christ.  I pray that she will take the advice seriously and take advantage of all that CBG has to offer her.  If her excitement was any indication, I think she will.

I know it is past Monday…sorry reberto…but, as they say, “better late then never!”  Ya’ know???

It was an amazing weekend @ Church by the Glades.  People left astonished, challenged, greatful and generous.  You don’t believe me?  Check out www.MyGoBigStory.com. I could write a ton about it, but most of the details have been posted on the website already.

Basics:  CBG gave away nearly $40,000 to help jump start the biblical principle of generosity in the lives of the people who attended.  Some people received $5 while others received $10, $20, $50, $100 and even $1000.  The people had to use the money they received to meet a need in the life of someone they know.  They could not give the money back to the church.  Finally, they had to report their story on the My Go Big Story.com website.  The stories are rolling in.  They are amazing.  Check them out now!!!!!

I have to say, these past 2 weeks @ CBG may have been the most challenging and compelling weekends ever in the history of the church.  The good news?  We are just getting started.  If you missed it, check out the messages here and here.

This weekend at CBG…

May 10, 2008

Well, I just got back in town from a mini-vaca with Melissa and some friends.  We had a great time.  Until I have time to catch you up on everything that is going on, I have this:

If you are reading this and attend Church by the Glades (or can attend CBG), you need to be there this weekend.  Not only will we be celebrating moms, but we will also be doing one of the most risky and creative things we have ever done.  Drop everything and go!

I wish I could give more details, but can’t.  I will, however, have a recap of what happens by Monday.

Hope to see you there!

Where’s the time!!!

I have so much I want to write about, but no time to do it. I hope to get some stuff up this next week. Anybody else having a crazy week??? I will be in touch. Until then, long live the twitter!!!

PS – Worship and Pastor David’s message may have been the best ever this past weekend! You can check out the podcast here. Sorry…you have to be here to experience the worship…at least right now…
